  • Maintain paint booths, spray guns, and related equipment.
  • Follow production schedules and meet quality/efficiency targets.
  • Assist with training Level I painters as needed.
  • Safely use solvents and chemicals per SDS guidelines.
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety policies and quality standards.

Stewart & Stevenson isNow Hiring a Painter II at 10750 Telge Road Houston, TX 77095.

The Painter Level II is an intermediate-level role responsible for independently preparing, painting, and finishing parts to meet S&S Manufacturing quality standards. This position requires solid experience in industrial painting, the ability to read and interpret blueprints or work orders, and the capability to identify and correct basic paint defects. The Painter II is expected to work with minimal supervision and may assist in training entry-level painters.

Responsibilities

Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification.

  • Independently perform surface preparation, masking, sanding, and cleaning of parts.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate spray guns and related painting equipment correctly.
  • Mix paints, primers, and coatings to specifications without supervision.

  • Possesses knowledge of industrial paint types (including epoxy, urethane, powder coat, and primers), proper surface‑preparation methods, and the identification and correction of basic paint defects.
  • Ability to properly mix, measure, and apply coatings per specification.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and proper PPE use.
  • Basic computer literacy for completing work orders or documentation.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:

  • 1–3 years industrial or manufacturing painting experience.

Special Requirements: (May be required or strongly preferred)

  • Respirator fit test.
  • Hazardous materials / OSHA training.
  • Powder coating certification (if applicable).

  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Able to lift 65 lbs. from floor to shoulder level occasionally.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the position, location, and/or customer.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while performing painting, preparation, and finishing tasks.
  • Ability to frequently exert the pound force limits for push/pull 50lb f (no wheels) or 100lb f (wheels).
  • Requires crawling and working in narrow spaces.
  • Requires frequent repetitive movements, i.e. hammering, turning wrenches, screwdrivers and impact tools.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with fingers.
  • Normal vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Will be required to work at a minimum height of four feet off of the ground.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes, mobile equipment and motor vehicles as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposed to cold, heat, noise mechanical/electrical fume or odor.
  • Will be required on occasion to work more than 8 hours on one shift.
  • Requires crawling and working in narrow spaces.
