Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Sioux Center, IA is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our plant running smoothly. You will work on pumps, motors, conveyors, and compressors, troubleshoot issues, and prevent breakdowns to maximize uptime.

This role emphasizes safety, GMPs, and teamwork. You’ll follow LOCKOUT/TAGOUT, perform routine checks, and collaborate with production and maintenance staff to improve efficiency, install new equipment, and support plant operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial maintenance or 4 years in a similar environment.
• Vocational or technical diploma/associate degree in maintenance preferred.
• Ability to function well in a team and interact with all levels.
• Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, scissor lift or other PIT equipment.
• Ability to read and execute work orders and document daily reports.

Responsibilities

• Keep the Plant Running Smoothly: Maintain key machinery and systems, perform regular checks, and fix breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a Clean & Safe Facility: Upkeep HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and general grounds; lawn and snow removal as needed.
• Ensure Safety & Compliance: Follow safety protocols (OSHA/EPA) and respond quickly in emergencies.
• Collaborate and Learn: Work with maintenance and production teams to solve problems and improve performance.
• Tackle Projects & New Installations: Install new equipment and lead efficiency-improving projects.
• Support the Team: Organize tools and supplies; assist with product transport as needed.
