Job summary

Smithfield is seeking a Maintenance and Engineering Associate Technician in Iowa to support the maintenance team across plant systems, including electrical and mechanical equipment. You will diagnose problems, plan preventative actions, and contribute to safe, efficient operations.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, coordinating maintenance activities, and communicating findings clearly with the Maintenance Manager and peers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college/university in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Industrial Maintenance Engineering, or related field is required.
• 1+ years of related experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment or equivalent training.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedures.
• Strong professionalism and ability to self-manage time from remote locations.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Support Maintenance Manager and department crews with installation, repair, evaluation, testing, and preventive maintenance of equipment across plant facilities.
• Diagnose equipment breakdowns and propose corrective actions to improve production efficiency and safety.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics; review drawings for fit and tolerance against specifications.
• Schedule maintenance and safety procedures; coordinate services and material supply to maintain optimal machinery condition.
• Conduct tests on units and components; compare results with design specs and objectives, recommending changes as needed.
• Ensure GMP and safety practices are followed at all times and comply with ISO 14001 procedures.
