Job description

Industrial Maintenance Supervisor

Day Shift: 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday

Competitive Salary

At Midland Garage Door, our maintenance team keeps the equipment running that keeps our production lines moving. As our Industrial Maintenance Supervisor, you'll take hands‑on ownership of the automated equipment in our Salt Lake City facility — troubleshooting PLC‑controlled roll forming lines, pneumatic systems, and drives — while leading and developing a team of maintenance technicians. If you're a resourceful, hands‑on leader who thrives on solving tough mechanical and electrical problems, we'd love to hear from you.

Summary:

The Industrial Maintenance Supervisor leads the maintenance function for a high‑volume garage door manufacturing facility, with primary responsibility for keeping automated production equipment — including PLC‑ and motion‑controlled roll forming lines, pneumatic systems, and associated mechanisms — running safely and reliably, and secondary responsibility for building and grounds upkeep. This is a hands‑on leadership role: the Supervisor both diagnoses and repairs equipment personally and directs a team of maintenance technicians, balancing uptime, safety, cost, and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities:
  1. Troubleshoot and repair automated production equipment — including Allen‑Bradley PLC and Trio motion controls, pneumatic systems, roll forming lines, drives, and mechanical assemblies.
  2. Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and controls‑level faults using schematics and test equipment; elevate to OEMs or controls integrators as needed.
  3. Build, run, and own the facility's preventive maintenance (PM) program, adjusting frequency and scope based on failure history.
  4. Coordinate PM and repair scheduling with Production and other Department Heads, prioritizing based on safety risk and production impact.
  5. Create, assign, and track work orders for the maintenance team, including labor hours and project expenses.
  6. Own the parts and inventory function for maintenance, including sourcing, vendor relationships, and lead times for critical spares.
  7. Review and approve maintenance‑related invoices and purchases; track spend against the maintenance budget.
  8. Enforce lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and other safety procedures on all repair and PM work.
  9. Supervise, train, and develop maintenance technicians, building cross‑training across the team.
  10. Maintain building and grounds systems (HVAC, lighting, dock equipment, general facility repairs) as a secondary responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred; equivalent trade school, military training, or on‑the‑job experience considered.
  • 3–5 years of hands‑on maintenance experience in an automated manufacturing environment, including direct experience troubleshooting PLC‑controlled production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of PLC‑based control systems — Allen‑Bradley (Studio 5000 / RSLogix) and Trio motion controllers.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems to the component level: motor controls, VFDs, sensors, relays, and control wiring.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude with pneumatic and mechanical drive systems (chains, belts, bearings, gearboxes).
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Practical, resourceful problem‑solver who can fabricate a fix or fixture when a stock part isn't available.
  • Prompt, reliable attendance and the ability to respond to off‑hours equipment issues as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience in a maintenance environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the maintenance team — assigning and reviewing work, training and cross‑training technicians, conducting performance reviews, and administering discipline in line with company policy. Ensures the team follows all safety and company policies, manages overtime and timecards, and approves time‑off requests based on workload and staffing needs.

Equipment Used:
  • Safety Glasses, Gloves, and ANSI‑approved work boots
  • Pneumatic, Hand, and Electric Tools
  • Forklift and Scissor Lift
  • Mill Machine and Drill Press
  • Welder and Plasma Cutter
