Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a Journeyman insulation technician to apply, remove, and repair insulation on equipment, pipes, and ductwork to control noise and maintain temperatures.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, selecting materials, and forming insulated surfaces while adhering to safety guidelines and documenting work activities. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with several years of field experience preferred.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

• Reads and interprets blue prints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
• Determines the amounts and selects required insulation material based on heat retention, location, surface, and equipment use.
• Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
• Covers, seals, or finishes insulated surfaces with covers, sealants, tape or caulking.
• Fits insulation around obstructions and shapes insulating materials and protective coverings.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect insulation from weather conditions or damage.
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces.
• Prepare surfaces for insulation by applying adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or attaching metal pins.
• Covers insulation with preformed plastic covers or tape to secure it to the structure.
• Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines and safety procedures.
• Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks.
