Job summary

Penn State University is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support the EHS department at University Park and across campuses. The role focuses on exposures assessment, control recommendations, and program management for OSHA-regulated substances.

Candidate will develop training materials, supervise program metrics, and assist in emergency response. A CIH is preferred; Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of relevant experience
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is required
• Ability to wear respiratory protection and comply with safety protocols
• Background checks and driving record checks are required

Responsibilities

• Evaluates exposures to workplace health hazards including airborne contaminants, noise, temperature extremes, and ergonomic stressors; conducts IH sampling as needed
• Develops recommendations to control health hazards and ensures regulatory compliance
• Manages assigned EHS programs and provides training materials and guidance to university personnel
• Develops materials and SOPs for safe handling of substances regulated by OSHA
• Reviews plans for ventilation and monitoring systems to ensure safe conditions
• Leads incident responses and coordinates with EHS staff and campus partners
• Maintains program records and supports emergency preparedness and response
