Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. (PAL) seeks an experienced Historical Archaeologist for post-contact and industrial archaeology projects. The role coordinates research, fieldwork, data collection, and reporting within project designs, with responsibilities including excavations, archival work, photo-documentation, survey mapping, and site evaluations.

Projects focus on documenting industrial resources in diverse settings. Applicants should have an M.A.

Qualifications

• M.A. in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience supervising field excavation projects with a focus on historic industrial sites.
• Strong research, field, and cultural material identification skills in the eastern United States, preferably in the Northeast.
• Proven track record of producing professional written work on time and within budget.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards and guidelines for archaeology and preservation planning.
• Well-written reports that convey findings and meet standards.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
• Proactive problem-solving and team-oriented approach to research and fieldwork.
• Experience with relational database applications, preferably in a networked Windows environment.
• Highly proficient mapping skills with map/compass, handheld GPS, and/or total station/transit.
• Ability to travel to project locations throughout the Northeast and pass background checks.

Responsabilités

• Coordinate technical and logistical aspects of research, fieldwork, data collection, and reporting within project designs.
• Perform field excavations, archival research, photo-documentation, survey mapping/recordation, and site evaluations/data recovery.
• Document industrial resources across urban, suburban, and rural settings and on general survey projects, post-contact sites, and pre-contact sites.
