Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, RI, seeks an experienced Architectural Historian to join the Historic Preservation Team. The role involves field surveys, historical research, context development, and documenting properties to support compliance with preservation laws.

The candidate will coordinate with a team of historians, prepare survey reports and NRHP nominations, and may travel up to two weeks as required. Full-time, 40 hours weekly.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architectural history, American history, public history, historic preservation, or related field
• At least three years of experience in historic architectural property identification surveys and Section 106 compliance evaluations
• Experience preparing National Register nominations/determinations of eligibility and HABS/HAER or state-level documentation reports
• Ability to coordinate thorough historical research at local, state, and national repositories and online sources
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Willingness to travel up to two weeks and perform fieldwork as required

• Organize and conduct field surveys to identify and record historic buildings, sites, structures, objects, landscapes, and districts
• Coordinate and conduct targeted research at local, state, and national repositories to document history of properties and develop context statements
• Evaluate historic architectural properties by applying NRHP criteria and aspects of integrity
• Assess effects of client projects on historic properties
• Write concise and accurate survey reports and related documentation
• Supervise associate architectural historians in fieldwork and research
