Job summary

SEARCH is seeking a Lead Archaeologist to direct field crews across Phase I–III projects in the Continental US. The role includes pre-field research, planning, fieldwork, artifact analysis, and preparing technical reports under guidance from senior staff.

The candidate will supervise teams, adapt methodologies, and ensure safety compliance while delivering high-quality results. Travel is required; benefits include health and retirement plans and paid time off.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
• Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional archaeological field experience.
• At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in the field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines while remaining detail oriented, organized, and able to work on multiple tasks.
• Ability to obtain government security clearance.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Lead crews of archaeologists performing Phase I, II, and III studies.
• Prepare field materials and conduct fieldwork.
• Analyze artifacts and data; contribute to reports and deliverables.
• Supervise field teams and coordinate with project leadership.
• Provide daily progress updates to Principal Investigator/Project Manager.
• Travel for extended periods as required.
