Job summary

City of Sacramento is seeking a journey-level Generator Technician to perform inspections, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gaseous engines, generators, and ATS equipment. You will read schematics, modify control circuits, and conduct transfer tests to ensure reliable power for critical facilities.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with internal combustion engines, aftertreatment systems, and safety procedures, and will be capable of handling heavy components and hazardous

Qualifications

• Two-year technical electrical or mechanical trade school or military training/apprenticeship.
• One year of maintenance/repair experience on diesel/gas engines or three years on diesel/gas engines and related electrical systems.
• Possession of a valid California driver license; ability to obtain A license with hazardous materials endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Assist and participate in routine inspections and modifications to IC engines, diesel generators, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ATS and annunciator panels and test transfer operations.
• Test and inspect oil, fuel, and cooling systems; maintain accurate records of work performed.
• Interpret wiring diagrams and modify diesel control circuits; lift and rig heavy components safely.
