Job summary

The City of Sacramento is seeking a Generator Technician at journey level to service internal combustion engines, diesel generators, and ATS systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing gaseous and diesel engines and related control circuits.

Under supervision, you will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, load testing, wiring modifications, and tests of power outages to ensure reliable operation.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical electrical or mechanical trade school or military training/apprenticeship.
• One year of experience in maintenance, servicing, and repair of diesel and gas engines and related electrical systems.
• Or three years of experience in general maintenance and repair of diesel and other gaseous IC engines and related systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist and participate in routine inspections and modifications to IC engines, diesel generators, and associated equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ATS and annunciator panels.
• Conduct load testing on units to identify problems and prevent wet stacking.
• Test batteries, fuel coolant, and oil; ship oil samples for analysis.
• Transport and dispose hazardous materials.
