Job summary

Linthicum Heights, MD-based opportunity with F.D. Thomas, Inc. seeking a Construction Estimator to join the industrial painting division. Early to mid-career candidates will grow by supporting bids, reviewing plans, and coordinating with vendors and internal teams.

You will help prepare estimates, budgets, and bid packages, while learning from experienced estimators and advancing to greater ownership of projects. A driver’s license and teamwork are required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in construction estimating or related field
• Basic understanding of construction documents and estimating principles
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing project estimates, proposals, and bid packages
• Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and scope requirements
• Perform quantity take-offs and assist with developing unit pricing
• Support development of conceptual budgets and cost estimates
• Communicate with general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors to gather pricing
• Track and organize bid documentation and correspondence
• Identify scope gaps, inconsistencies, or potential risks in project documents
• Participate in bid-day activities, including reviewing incoming quotes
• Support RFI processes when needed
• Assist project teams with buyouts, purchasing, and change orders
• Attend estimating meetings, job walks, and pre-bid meetings
• Contribute to continuous improvement and learning within the estimating team
