Job summary

Wayfair Romeoville is seeking an Industrial Engineer to design and optimize facility layouts, develop material handling equipment, and partner with cross‑functional teams to scale the supply chain technology.

You will perform ROI analyses, manage vendor proposals and RFPs, and lead the deployment of automated systems to maximize warehouse capacity, throughput, and efficiency across the site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years hands-on experience in MHE design, application engineering, or supply chain implementation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, familiarity with 3D modeling tools (Demo3D, SketchUp), and SQL for analytics.
• Strong understanding of distribution center operations, racking design, and automated conveyor/sortation/robotics systems.
• Detail-oriented with excellent time management and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Design & Layout Optimization: Create and update 2D/3D facility layouts using AutoCAD to integrate conveyors, shelving, robotics, and workstations.
• Vendor & Project Management: Manage vendor relationships through design, proposal, and RFP processes, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
• Financial & Data Analytics: Perform ROI analyses (Capital vs. Labor savings) to justify solutions and support data-driven procurement.
• Change Management: Guide site leadership through process and equipment validation, including documenting, tracking performance, and delivering training.
• System Implementation: Lead deployment of automated material handling systems to maximize warehouse capacity and throughput.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as engineering liaison between local site leadership and remote business partners.
• Required Travel: Up to 20-30%
