Job summary

Michels Power, Inc. in Otsego, MN is seeking an Electrical Estimator – Industrial & Medium Voltage to evaluate bid specifications and drawings, ensuring full scope coverage and competitive bids for heavy industrial projects.

You will collaborate with subcontractors and Project Management to develop budgets, cost forecasts, and quantify takeoffs for industrial electrical and MV systems, then turn over bid documentation and buyout information to support award and turnover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 3–5 years of related experience in estimating, construction, or electrical infrastructure.
• Experience with negotiation and subcontractor engagement.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental policies and regulations.
• Review bid specifications and drawings for projects ranging approximately from $500K to $10M, ensuring full scope coverage.
• Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for industrial electrical and medium-voltage systems.
• Partner with Procurement to secure vendor and supplier pricing.
• Identify, manage, and maintain relationships with subcontractors, ensuring timely and complete bid coverage.
• Develop project schedules and cost forecasts to support estimating accuracy.
• Track and analyze budget-to-actual comparisons throughout the bid lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Project Management to follow up on bids, budgets, and award status.
• Properly turn over bid documents and subcontractor buyout information to Project Managers.
• Review drawings with Project Management teams and highlight risks, gaps, or constructability issues.
• Maintain organized and well-documented estimate files.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
