Job summary

Ohio State University in Columbus, OH is seeking an Applied Research Engineer 2 to lead engineering efforts at the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME). You will drive industry-led cybersecurity projects, develop curricula for manufacturing-focused cyber education, and coordinate with partners to ensure timely delivery and funded initiatives.

The role requires collaboration with faculty and staff, delivering webinars and events, and traveling to client sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, business, communications, education, psychology, related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Master's Degree in a relevant field is desired
• 2 years experience in a professional research environment, including proposal writing, program outreach, partner engagement, and participant recruitment
• Working knowledge of basic cybersecurity concepts, CMMC fundamentals, and ability to translate technical information to non-technical audiences
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated comfort presenting; experience building relationships with external partners

Responsibilities

• Lead engineer for CDME and execute industry-led projects in industrial cybersecurity
• Plan and develop virtual cybersecurity curriculum focusing on manufacturing, OT, CMMC readiness, and AI trustworthiness
• Coordinate outreach, advertising, communications, and partner engagement to ensure project milestones and budgets are met
• Collaborate with OSU faculty, CDME staff and students to coordinate multi-disciplinary tasks
• Deliver technical content via webinars, workshops, events, and virtual cohorts; travel to customer facilities for meetings and implementations
• Support professional development and student programs within CDME; secure funding for position and direct reports
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
