Position Overview
The Industrial Coatings Sales Manager leads, coaches, and executes strategic sales initiatives across Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. This role is responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market share in regional industrial sectors (including marine/maritime, DOT infrastructure, commercial structural steel, and industrial OEM), and directing a field technical sales team throughout the three-state territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Territory Leadership: Direct, mentor, and evaluate a field team of industrial sales representatives to consistently exceed revenue and gross margin targets across MD, VA, and NC.
- Strategic Market Penetration: Formulate regional growth plans tailored to Mid-Atlantic industrial drivers, targeting state DOT maintenance specifications, marine/shipyard applications, water/wastewater facilities, and manufacturing plants.
- Key Account Management: Build and maintain senior-level relationships with regional asset owners, general contractors, engineering specifiers, and industrial coaters/applicators.
- Technical & Commercial Oversight: Guide the sales team through complex technical sales cycles, job-site troubleshooting, product performance trials, and spec-writing with engineering firms.
- Pipeline & Revenue Forecasting: Monitor team field activities, track sales metrics via CRM, and deliver accurate monthly/quarterly territory revenue forecasts.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with technical service teams, supply chain, and local distribution hubs to ensure seamless product delivery and service execution across the territory.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of successful B2B technical sales experience in protective coatings, industrial linings, or specialty chemicals, with at least 2+ years managing high-performing field sales reps in the Mid-Atlantic or Southeast markets.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in protective chemistries (epoxies, polyurethanes, polysiloxanes), surface prep standards (SSPC/NACE standards), and regional specifications (e.g., VDOT, NCDOT, MDOT specs).
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Business, or equivalent industry experience.
- Certifications: AMPP (NACE/SSPC) Coating Inspector or Technologist certification strongly preferred.
- Location & Travel: Based within Maryland, Virginia, or North Carolina, with up to 50% regional travel for field coaching, key client visits, and site evaluations.
- Demonstrated ability to drive sales growth in multi-state commercial sales territories.
- Strong familiarity with regional DOT, industrial, and marine specification channels.
- Proficiency in CRM management, pipeline analytics, and strategic territory planning.
