Job summary

United Parcel Service (UPS) in New Orleans, LA seeks a maintenance automation technician to troubleshoot, calibrate, and adjust plant floor devices and automated systems, ensuring optimal performance of facility equipment and material handling systems.

You will guide maintenance mechanics and automation personnel, address alarms and faults, and support testing, commissioning, and upgrades of automation equipment in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or international equivalent preferred.
Programming experience with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls preferred.
Basic understanding of industrial networks and automated material handling equipment preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Ability to read electrical schematics, control drawings, ladder logic diagrams.

Responsibilities

Responds to internal customers regarding equipment, automation, and facility-related issues.
Responds to facility alarms, automation system faults, and emergency situations.
Troubleshoots mechanical, electrical, and automation-related problems that arise during operations.
Performs preventative maintenance on conveyors, controls systems, and facility equipment.
Monitors automated material handling systems to identify equipment performance issues and potential failures.
Troubleshoots PLCs, HMIs, motor controls, scanners, photoeyes, barcode readers, camera tunnels, and industrial networks.
Supports the maintenance and reliability of sortation systems, conveyors, and automation controls equipment.
Assists with root cause analysis of equipment failures and implements corrective actions to minimize recurring downtime.
Monitors system alarms, equipment trends, and operational data to identify improvement opportunities.
Calibrates sensors, scanners, photoeyes, and other automation devices to maintain system accuracy and performance.
Supports software and controls changes under established engineering and operational procedures.
Coordinates with operations and maintenance personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize operational impact.
Maintains technical documentation, troubleshooting records, and preventative maintenance activities.
Ensures compliance with safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, and automation safety standards.
Assists with testing, commissioning, and startup of new automation equipment and system upgrades.
