Job summary

State-of-Minnesot is seeking an attorney to provide legal services to indigent defendants in district court and to juveniles in juvenile court under general supervision. The position requires graduation from an accredited law school and Minnesota Bar admission (or eligibility under the Supreme Court Student Practice Rule with first-attempt bar passage).

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college of law and admission to the Bar of Minnesota.
  • Student Practice Rule participants must pass the bar on their first attempt.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cases for defense of indigent clients in district courts and juvenile court.
  • Interview clients and witnesses; draft briefs, memoranda, pleadings, and other legal papers.
  • Conduct legal research and present evidence and arguments in court.
  • Represent misdemeanor, felony, or juvenile clients in arraignments, hearings, trials and other proceedings; decide on bail and other pre-trial issues.
  • Coordinate with prosecutors to reach plea agreements and consult with social workers and judges on treatment plans when appropriate.
  • Supervise work of law clerks and maintain professional relationships with prosecutors, judges, referees, and clients.
  • Perform related work as required.
