Job summary

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks a Highway Technician for the Poseyville Unit. You will help maintain Indiana highways, perform winter operations, and assist with traffic control during emergencies.

The role is entry level with opportunities for career advancement and mandatory overtime for emergency operations. The position starts at an hourly rate of $20.00 and may be commensurate with education and experience; CDL endorsements increase pay.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods.
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate basic highway maintenance/traffic equipment to maintain, repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Perform winter operations such as snow and ice removal.
• Conduct regular inspections and routine equipment maintenance.
• Assist with traffic control during emergencies and road closures.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
