Job summary

INDOT's New Haven Unit in Indiana is hiring a Highway Technician to perform general highway maintenance, pothole filling, drainage work, snow plowing, and traffic control during emergencies. This entry-level role offers overtime opportunities and a path to career advancement.

A valid Class A or Class B CDL is required or must be obtained within 90 days; a CDL with endorsements earns an extra $1 per hour. Base pay starts at $20 per hour, with CDL adjustments. State benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods.
• Ability to work in inclement weather and perform winter operations and emergency response duties.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to repair and clean highways and rights-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials; perform winter operations including snow/ice removal.
• Perform regular inspections and routine equipment maintenance; assist with traffic control and emergencies.
• Maintain and install traffic signs and markings as assigned.
