Job summary

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Bluffton Unit is hiring a Highway Technician to maintain Indiana highways. Duties include trash pickup, pothole repair, drainage maintenance, snow plowing, and assisting with traffic control during emergencies.

Entry level with opportunities for advancement; overtime is mandatory for emergencies, including winter. Initial pay starts at $20.00/hour, with CDL positions earning an extra $1/hour.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Must pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities for long periods (standing, bending, walking).
• Must endure exposure to inclement weather and operate traffic equipment.

Responsibilities

• Comply with INDOT safety policies and procedures.
• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain and clean highways.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Perform winter operations including snow and ice removal.
• Assist with emergency response activities such as traffic control, lane closures, and signage.
