Job summary

The Coos Bay School District is seeking Independent Skills Center Assistants for the 2026-2027 school year to support students in a specialized learning environment. The role reports to the Independent Skills Center Coordinator, Director of Special Education, and Principal.

Responsibilities include assisting with individualized instruction, implementing IEP-based interventions, and facilitating a safe, positive learning atmosphere.

Qualifications

• Completion of at least two years of relevant college education or an Associate's Degree.
• Willingness to complete specialized training and/or certification programs defined by the district.
• Prior successful experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
• Familiarity with Special Education laws and policies is preferred.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work with and lead elementary students in activities.
• Ability to exercise sound independent judgment and adapt to changing needs.
• Ability to assist students with personal and physical care as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Independent Skills Teacher in providing individualized academic instruction and behavioral support.
• Support students one-on-one and in small groups, reinforcing lessons and interventions.
• Implement accommodations and modifications per IEPs.
• Assist with personal care tasks to support student independence and wellbeing.
