Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will adapt activities, assist teachers, and monitor behavior to align with IEP goals.

Responsibilities include communicating with staff and families, maintaining records, and assisting with personal care as needed. Strong collaboration and crisis-safety awareness are valued in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; multiple pathways to qualification.
• Ability to perform basic math and understand multi-step instructions.
• Experience supporting students with special needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adapts activities and materials to include all special education students.
• Assists in evaluating student progress and organizing individual needs.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required.
• Supports students with personal care needs as needed.
• Attends meetings and trainings to stay informed on procedures.
• Confers with teachers on progress and implements IEP objectives.
• Communicates with teachers and parents about student progress.
• Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with disorders.
• Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives.
• Maintains instructional materials and student records.
• Monitors students in various school environments to ensure safety.
• Performs other related duties to support the school program.
• Reports to principal or Special Education Supervisor as appropriate.
