Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Portables Technician to perform inspections, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.

The role operates with minimal supervision, adhering to NFPA standards and company procedures, and emphasizes safety, accuracy in documentation, and customer communication on job status and findings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety as technician or apprentice.
• NICET Level I or higher preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks.
• Clean driving record and active driver's license if driving role.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job status and findings.
• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
