Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Portables Technician to independently perform inspections, maintenance, and service on portable fire protection equipment in commercial, industrial, and construction environments. You will work with minimal supervision while ensuring compliance with codes and company standards.

The role requires accurate documentation, safe operation of tools and vehicles, travel to job sites, and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years in the fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Travel to job sites as required.
