Job summary

Austin Lighthouse for the Blind in Austin, TX seeks an Independent Living Specialist to help individuals regain skills and independence at home. You will work one-on-one with adults who are blind or visually impaired, guiding daily living activities and safe task performance.

Reports to the VP of Mission Services. Requires a bachelor's degree in human services, 2+ years' independent living training, and MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services field.
• 2+ years' independent living training experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office and standard computer programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide integrated, functional skills curriculum through explicit instruction in the community.
• Engage customers with programs to achieve independence goals.
• Develop and maintain group activities for clients.
• Assist customers with daily living tasks (cooking, laundry, hygiene, budgeting, transportation).
• Document progress with clear case notes and data records.
