Job summary

The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth seeks an Independent Living Specialist to empower blind or visually impaired clients to live independently. This full-time, salaried role involves in-home training, case coordination, and advocacy across North Texas.

You will teach essential living skills, assess learning styles, and collaborate with partners while promoting accessible devices and transportation options to increase client independence.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience with braille is a plus.
• Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home training and independent living instruction to clients.
• Coordinate caseloads and manage referrals from partner programs.
• Advocate for clients and build community partnerships.
• Teach IL skills and adapt to individual learning styles.
• Operate with patience, empathy and client-centered planning.
• Promote assistive devices and transportation options as needed.
