Job summary

Kindly Direct Care in Mountainside, NJ is seeking a Direct Support Professional to work one-to-one with an adult with developmental disabilities. This role focuses on mentoring, coaching, and building independence through everyday activities and community involvement.

You will support outings, library visits, computer learning, grocery shopping, and daily living skills, while maintaining safety and documenting progress. A reliable schedule, onboarding, and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Dependable, engaging, patient, and able to build rapport.
• Experience in mentoring, coaching, education, recreation, behavioral health, human services, disability support, or caregiving is a plus.
• Able to commit reliably to agreed schedule.
• Driving required.
• Able to complete onboarding, background checks, and training.

Responsibilities

• Participate in grocery shopping, computer learning, community outings, walks, library visits, job searching and follow-ups.
• Provide coaching in daily living, communication, social and independence skills.
• Help establish positive routines and support individualized goals.
• Model problem-solving and appropriate communication.
• Support decision-making, self-advocacy, and confidence.
• Provide companionship and a consistent mentoring relationship.
• Maintain safety and follow individualized support instructions.
• Complete required documentation and stay in communication with the Kindly team.

About This Opportunity

We are looking for an older, easygoing DSP to support a 57-year-old gentleman with community outings and building independence. Activities include fishing, taking walks, visiting the library, learning to use a computer, job searching, and grocery shopping.

You May Spend Your Shift

• Participating in grocery shopping, computer learning, community outings, walks, library visits, job searching and application follow-ups, local events and classes, and doctor’s appointments.

• Coaching daily living, communication, social, and independence skills.

• Helping establish positive routines and work toward individualized goals.

• Modeling problem-solving, appropriate communication, and healthy community participation.

• Supporting decision-making, self-advocacy, and confidence.

• Providing companionship and a consistent mentoring relationship.

• Maintaining safety and following individualized support instructions.

• Completing required documentation and staying in close communication with the Kindly team.
