Job summary

Maiden Erlegh Trust is looking for a Teaching Assistant to support students to access the curriculum, work with teachers and SEND colleagues, and help learners participate in lessons. You will contribute to an inclusive, safe learning environment and help develop independence.

You will work with individuals and small groups, reinforce expectations, monitor progress, and assist with learning resources and interventions. Strong communication, observation and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• Holds a relevant Level 2 qualification in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent.
• Holds Level 2 or equivalent qualifications in English and mathematics.
• Demonstrates effective questioning, observation and assessment skills to support student learning.
• Understands the role of a teaching assistant in supporting and supervising students within structured learning activities.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of teaching and learning by working with teachers to implement activities.
• Work with individual students and small groups to clarify instructions and encourage independent learning.
• Assist with learning resources, equipment and materials during lessons.
• Monitor engagement and understanding, providing feedback to inform teaching approaches.
• Provide timely support during lessons including prompting, questioning, reading or scribing.
• Contribute to assessment by observing and recording student progress.
• Support behaviour management by reinforcing expectations and routines.
• Build positive relationships with students and promote confidence and independence.
• Support students with SEND through agreed strategies and targeted interventions.
• Assist with preparation of learning resources and related activities.
• Collaborate with teachers and SEND staff to support inclusive practice.
• Contribute to wider life of the school including supervision and extra-curricular activities.
