Job summary

Onslow County Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support teachers and therapists in daily activities for children with disabilities. Open until filled, with a 10-month term and salary grade 56. Reports to the Principal/Supervisor and classroom teachers.

Role involves assisting in academic tasks, bathroom/dressing aide, data entry, and supervision during drills and field trips. ETTP training is required within the first year.

Qualifications

• Two year Associate's Degree in Education preferred.
• Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university with emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge.
• ETTP course completion within the first school year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Follows school rules, policies, and procedures, including state and federal regulations.
• Assists in classroom/student management and maintains discipline.
• Assists students on individual academic assignments.
• Assists with gross motor activities (grasping, crawling, walking, running).
• Assists with fine motor activities (toys, cutting, coloring).
• Assists with dressing, eating, grooming, toileting and personal hygiene.
• Maintains equipment used in instructional programs.
• Assists therapists and other specialists.
• Records student behavior and progress; files incident reports.
• Performs clerical duties: attendance, grading, copies, displays, materials.
• Implements educational programs; administers and scores tests.
• Monitors safety and well-being of students; supports digital age learning.
• Encourages academic growth and models ethical behavior.
• Supervises students during drills, assemblies, field trips; bus monitor when applicable.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
