Job summary

Onslow County Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Personal Care Assistant to support teachers and therapists in daily classroom activities for students with disabilities. Open until filled, 10-month term, salaryGrade 53, non-exempt.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• AA degree preferred with emphasis in mathematics, reading, writing and content knowledge; 2.5 GPA.
• Willingness to pursue AA degree during employment for promotion eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Follow rules, policies, and procedures of OCS and state/federal regulations.
• Assist in classroom management and maintaining discipline.
• Assist students with gross motor activities (grasping, crawling, walking, running, holding objects).
• Assist students with fine motor activities (toys, cutting, coloring).
• Assist students with dressing, eating, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Assist students with mobility and basic communication skills.
• Assemble, adjust, and maintain equipment used in instructional programs.
• Assist therapists and other specialists.
• Record student behavior and progress.
• Monitor safety and well-being of students; supervise during drills, lunch, recess, field trips; bus monitor if applicable.
