Job summary

YMCA of San Diego is hiring to support participants with special needs in daily YMCA programming, leading activities and ensuring safety and inclusion. The role emphasizes behavior modification, supervision, and positive role modeling within an in-person setting.

You will work with children and youth, plan engaging activities, maintain clear communication with families and staff, and help provide a supportive, inclusive environment across program areas.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age and high school graduate or GED.
• 1–2 years advanced experience working with participants with special needs/social-emotional/behavior support needs ages 0-14.
• Experience in behavior modification strategies and reinforcement systems desirable.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required within 30 days of hire from recognized organizations.

Responsibilities

• Help facilitate inclusion of participant into typical program day.
• Work individually with a participant with special needs.
• Ensure safety and well-being of participants including hygiene.
• Implement behavior strategies that support the participant in the program.
• Provide continual supervision and act as a leader and positive role model.
• Facilitate activities, academic enrichment, games, crafts and other program activities.
• Create an age-appropriate learning environment that fosters creativity and individuality.
• Maintain daily communication with supervisor, staff, participants and parents.
• Provide resources and effective strategies that support the participant to other staff.
• Follow YMCA standards, goals and objectives.
• Keep and maintain participant documentation for services and accountability.
