Job summary

YMCA of San Diego is seeking a dedicated staff member to work with participants who have special needs, helping them participate fully in daily YMCA programs. You will provide behavior support and serve as a positive role model while ensuring safety and personal care for all participants.

This in-person role requires 1–2 years of relevant experience and a commitment to high-quality programming. You will collaborate with staff and families to create an engaging, inclusive environment and support

Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older.
1–2 years advanced experience with participants with special needs/social-emotional/behavior support (ages 0–21).
Experience with behavior modification strategies and reinforcement systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

Help facilitate inclusion of participants into typical program day.
Work individually with a participant with special needs.
Ensure safety and well-being of participants (including personal care).
Implement behavior strategies to support participants in the program.
Provide supervision and act as a positive role model.
Facilitate activities, academic enrichment, games, crafts and other program activities.
Maintain an age-appropriate learning environment fostering creativity.
Communicate daily with supervisor, staff, participants and parents.
Follow YMCA standards, goals, and objectives.
