Job summary

The Flushing YMCA is seeking an Inclusion Specialist to join our Afterschool team, shaping a positive, supportive environment where young people thrive socially, emotionally, and physically.

You will collaborate with staff to implement individualized accommodation plans, support behavior and social-emotional development, and connect families with needed services while adhering to NYCF standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Social Sciences, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required.
• MSW/MHC student or graduate preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience with children under 13.
• Current Pediatrics CPR or First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively welcome and develop programming with the Content Specialist to serve a diverse group of participants, ensuring accessibility.
• Develop and implement inclusive outreach strategies to connect with individuals facing barriers to participation.
• Foster a safe, welcoming environment where all youths and families feel valued and heard.
• Manage participants’ Individualized Accommodation Plans.
• Maintain student behavioral support plans and logs.
• Support the implementation of systems for tracking student behaviors and collaborate with staff, caregivers, and teachers to identify behavior strategies.
• Guide staff on implementing behavioral strategies in the learning environment.
• Communicate with DYCD about needs for specialized supports beyond the program’s capacity.
• Ensure staff are familiar with mental health support needs and trauma-informed programming.
• Provide information and referrals for mental health services as needed.
