Job summary

Southern Freight Lines is seeking a FT Inbound Freight Handler who will load and unload freight, inspect trailers, and ensure safe handling. The role requires forklift experience and a preference for prior Warehouse/Material Handler work. A forklift certification is preferred.

The position offers first shift hours with pay ranging from $29.70 to $34.50 per hour, variations by location and experience, and emphasis on safety and accuracy in handling freight.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must pass background check and an alcohol and drug test.
• Experience as Forklift Operator, Dock/Warehouse/Material Handler preferred.
• Forklift certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment.
• Prepare, sweep, inspect and clean trailers before loading freight.
• Use safe lifting techniques when loading/unloading.
• Select and use proper freight handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.).
• Weigh and dimension shipments to ensure proper classification and safe handling.
• Plan cube utilization and weight distribution when loading freight.
• Count and inspect freight, document shortages or damage.
• Review freight bills and manifests for instructions and discrepancies.
• Verify hazardous material descriptions and placarding as needed.
• Block and brace freight to prevent shifting during transport.
