Job Description - In-Store Sales Associate/Backup CDL Delivery Driver (25000054)

Location: Rock Island, IL

Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is looking for a dynamic customer service-oriented associate to work in our retail branch. This position will handle customer inquiries, sell products to both walk-in and preferred customers, and occasionally deliver compressed gas cylinders, hard goods, and associated products to customer locations (local route). Backup drivers are required to touch freight when delivering, have a strong commitment to safety, and provide excellent customer service.

What you will be doing:

1. Provide customer support by taking phone orders, addressing inquiries, tracking order status and shipments, and solving customer issues.
2. Assess and recommend products while promoting additional sales of hard goods and gases to achieve target margins.
3. Conduct product demonstrations for customers using customer insight to drive and guide the development of new offerings.
4. Work closely with and provide sales support to the Outside Sales team.
5. Maintain customer records and files, including accurate account setup and pricing.
6. Perform warehouse duties and move cylinders for customers as needed.
7. Deliver products to customers by making an average of 10-12 stops per day, while touching freight, completing paperwork, and providing excellent customer service.
8. Accurately count and record the quantities and styles of products delivered and picked up.
9. Complete hazardous material shipping order papers in accordance with DOT regulations.
10. Conduct and report pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
11. Identify the need for timely vehicle repairs and/or maintenance.
12. Build relationships and partnerships with internal and external customers to meet goals and objectives of the business and customer needs.
13. Continuously build your knowledge on how Linde’s business operates and succeeds to help the organization continue growing.
14. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Customer Service or Counter Sales experience required; Industrial setting preferred.
• Knowledge of welding equipment and supplies preferred.
• No DUI/DWI or other alcohol (driving) related convictions within the last ten (10) years.
• 2 years of consecutive driving experience or have recently received a certification from an accredited Truck Driving School.
• Valid Class A or B CDL is required.
• Current Hazmat Endorsement on CDL strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• No preventable accidents, license suspensions, or other moving violations in the past 2 years.
• Pass a DOT physical and obtain a medical certificate.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
• Read and write in English.
• 21 years or older.
