Job summary

The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, is seeking a professional Server to deliver exceptional guest service across seven dining options. You will take orders, explain menu items, and ensure accurate service while maintaining a polished appearance.

Qualified candidates have at least 1 year in upscale dining, are 21+, and hold or can obtain a California Food Handler Card. Flexible schedule including weekends/holidays is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience working as a Server, preferably in an upscale dining environment.
• Must be 21 years of age or over.
• Must have current California Food Handler Card or willingness/ability to obtain before first day.
• Ability to work a variety of schedules including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Take food and drink orders accurately and notify kitchen following department procedures.
• Explain menu items, including content and preparation style.
• Be familiar with daily specials and present to guests.
• Ensure consistency in preparation and presentation of items.
• Handle guest checks and process payments (cash, room charge, or credit card).
• Maintain professional appearance and friendly, personalized service.
• Coordinate with Culinary and FOH Management as needed.
• Respond appropriately to hotel emergencies or safety procedures.

TheServeris responsible for offering guests an enjoyable, expertly served meal reflecting the high customer service standards of the hotel/resort. They must anticipate guests’ needs and provide service before being asked and monitoring the table during their meal. AServermust maintain a professional appearance, provide friendly, personalized service to guests, and maintain good working relationships with staff and management.

• Work as a team player with all restaurant staff.
• Take food and drink orders accurately and notify kitchen of order following department procedures.
• Be prepared to explain menu items, including food content and preparation style.
• Be familiar with daily specials and present to guest.
• Ensure consistency in preparation and presentation of food and drink items before serving to guest.
• Follow all standard food handling, sanitation and health department guidelines.
• Understand and use the proper procedure for guest walk-outs.
• Present guest check and process utilizing proper policies and procedures for cash, room charge or credit card.
• Remain up-to-date on events within hotel/resort.
• Know all dining room floor plans and understand the seat number system.
• Strictly adhere to the rules and regulations established in the employee handbook and the hotel’s policies.
• Follow proper payroll, uniform, and grooming policies and procedures.
• Attend and contribute to all staff meetings, pre-shift meetings, other departmental and hotel meetings and/or training as scheduled.
• Maintain open communication with the Culinary staff as well as the FOH Management
• Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation and is well versed in all procedures
• Utilizing the10’-5’-3’ rule in all interactions
• Recognize and address any problems resulting from guest complaints, intoxication or disruptive behavior.
• Notify management of unsafe conditions, needed maintenance of tables, chairs, carpet and/or equipment and any accidents.
• Follow all procedures when responding to any hotel emergency or safety situation.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications / Other Expectations:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one (1) year experience working as aServer, preferably in an upscale dining environment.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to work with management staff and other employees in a professional manner.
• Must be 21 years of age or over.
• Must have current California Food Handler Card or willingness and ability to obtain California Food Handling Card before first day of employment.
• Ability to work a variety of schedules including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
