Job summary

SmartBiz Bank, headquartered in Northbrook, IL, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support GAAP-based financial close, reporting, and analysis. The role will involve journal entries, close processes, and reconciliations for bank and holding company accounts, with collaboration across deposit and lending teams.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting experience in community banking, advanced Excel skills, and a strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including in a small to medium-sized community bank.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting, including call reports.
• Experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems.
• Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
• Hands-on contributor who can balance strategy with execution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with GAAP and bank policies.
• Assist month-end and quarter-end close processes within deadlines.
• Reconcile bank GL and holding company GL accounts, ensuring balances are supported.
• Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and collaborate with partners.
• Manage accounts payable and employee expense reimbursements.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for management and Board.
• Coordinate regulatory reporting including Quarterly Call Reports and holding company reports.
• Support external audits and tax advisors during audits and reviews.
• Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets.
