ACC San Diego - Association of Corporate Counsel in the Los Angeles area seeks an in‑house litigation/general counsel to serve as primary legal advisor to the CEO, handling active litigation, governance, and complex transactions.

You will solve problems, manage priorities, draft and negotiate agreements, advise on compliance, select outside counsel, and partner with leadership on strategic initiatives in a dynamic, long‑term role.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active California State Bar membership.
• 20+ years of diverse legal practice.
• Active, recent trial experience in civil and business litigation.
• Strong background in business disputes, contract litigation, employment and real estate disputes.
• Proven ability to handle governance, compliance, transactional work, and strategic counsel.
• Exceptional negotiation, drafting, and risk management skills.

Responsibilities

About The Role

A well-established Los Angeles–area company is seeking an exceptional In-House Litigation/General Counsel to serve as primary legal advisor to the CEO. This is a hands‑on, long‑term role for a seasoned attorney who thrives in dynamic environments and can handle everything from active litigation to corporate governance to complex transactions.

You’ll be a no‑nonsense problem solver and strategic advisor. You should master new legal areas quickly, find solutions where others see obstacles, manage multiple fast‑moving priorities without sacrificing quality, and operate independently with sound judgment under pressure.

What You'll Do

• Handle and personally try civil litigation including business disputes, contract disputes, real estate disputes, and employment issues
• Serve as primary legal advisor on a broad range of corporate legal matters
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and transactions
• Advise on corporate governance, compliance, and regulatory matters
• Select and manage outside counsel relationships when specialized expertise is needed, controlling strategy and budget
• Identify legal risks early and develop practical, business‑minded solutions
• Partner with executive leadership on strategic business initiatives

Requirements

• J.D. degree and active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
• 20+ years of diverse legal practice
• Active, recent trial experience in civil and business litigation
• Strong background handling business disputes, contract litigation, employment matters, and real estate disputes
• Proven ability to handle corporate governance, compliance, transactional work, and strategic business counsel
• Exceptional negotiation, contract drafting, and risk management skills
• Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort managing ambiguity
• Ability to operate independently and provide strategic counsel to executive leadership

Preferred

• Background at a large law firm of 50+ attorneys
• Prior in‑house or general counsel experience

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $300,000 – $650,000, depending on qualifications and experience
