Placements24 is seeking an experienced in-house legal counsel for a leading mining group in Welkom. The role blends office-based duties with a hybrid work arrangement, providing guidance on regulatory compliance, environmental law, and contractual matters within the mining sector.

The candidate must be an admitted SA High Court attorney with at least 8 years' experience, offering practical, business-focused advice and strong negotiation capabilities to support governance and corporate

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on mining operations and governance.

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, JV partners, and service providers.
• Manage litigation, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
• Advise on mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the mining sector , is seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join their team in Welkom . This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending office-based responsibilities with the flexibility of remote work. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal guidance on a variety of matters pertinent to the mining industry, including regulatory compliance, environmental law, and contractual agreements. This role is critical in ensuring the company operates within legal boundaries and mitigates risks in a complex and regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal advice on all aspects of mining operations, including exploration, development, and closure.
• Ensure compliance with mining legislation, environmental regulations, and health and safety standards.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, service providers, and joint venture partners.
• Manage and oversee litigation, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
• Advise on corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
• Significant experience in mining law , environmental law, and corporate/commercial law.
• Proven ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Experience working in an in-house legal department is highly desirable.
