Job summary

The New York State Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Associate General Counsel for the Office of General Counsel in New York City. The role requires 2–5 years of attorney experience and involves handling diverse legal matters, researching complex issues, and drafting memoranda in a fast-paced environment.

The position reports to the General Counsel or Deputy General Counsels and is located in NYC, with a hybrid work arrangement and a robust benefits program.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of relevant experience as an attorney in a law firm or in-house for a complex or government organization.
• Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
• Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple assignments.
• Highly collaborative and client-focused with diverse clients.
• Experience in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
• Knowledge of contract law; labor and employment law; and government ethics/compliance a plus.
• Judicial clerkship experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Research complex legal issues and write memoranda.
• Review and draft contracts and procurement documents.
• Craft, review, and revise OAG policies and ensure policy compliance.
• Assist with sensitive employment and labor law matters.
• Assist with litigation and subpoena responses and other document requests.
• Collaborate with OGC attorneys on internal changes, affirmative litigation, and policy initiatives.
• Stay current on AI-related legal developments and advise OGC attorneys.
• Research statutes, rules, and regulations and assist with pending legislation.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by GC or Deputy GC.
