Job summary

The City of New York – Department of Probation is seeking an Agency Attorney to serve as Associate General Counsel in the General Law Unit. The role reports to the General Counsel and supports agency operations through legal research, guidance on liability, and drafting complex agreements.

Responsibilities include negotiating MOUs, reviewing policies, and liaising with the NYC Law Department on litigation matters.

Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and either 2 or 3 below.
One year of U.S. legal experience after admission to any state bar; or six months as Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research and provide guidance on liability, risk assessments, and enforcement of laws and regulations.
Negotiate, draft, review and process complex or highly technical memoranda of understanding, contracts, leases and other agreements.
Review and draft complex policies, procedures, and operational documents.
Recommend statutory and regulatory revisions related to agency issues.
Research and prepare briefs, factual opinions, affidavits, and memoranda of law.
Respond to Subpoenas and FOIL requests.
Prepare position statements in response to Charges of Discrimination filed with federal, state and local entities.
Act as liaison with Agency executives and other governmental bodies and law enforcement officials.
Serve as liaison to the NYC Law Department on litigation matters
