Job summary

Talently is recruiting for an Associate Counsel to join the in-house legal team of a growing retailer in South Houston, Texas. This mid-senior level role focuses on providing practical, business-focused legal support across employment matters, commercial litigation, and general corporate issues.

The ideal candidate will hold a JD, be in good standing with the Texas State Bar, and have 2–5 years of employment law experience, including workplace investigations and litigation.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas (Texas State Bar in good standing).
• 2–5 years of employment law experience (in-house or law firm).
• In-house commercial litigation experience.
• Strong knowledge of ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and ADEA.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance on federal, state, and local employment laws (discrimination, leave, wage-and-hour, accommodation).
• Assist with employment and commercial litigation, including investigations, pleadings, discovery, depositions, and trials.
• Conduct and support workplace investigations involving harassment, retaliation, and misconduct.
• Draft, review, and negotiate settlement agreements, separation agreements, and commercial contracts.
• Advise HR and business leaders on hiring, discipline, performance management, and compliance.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on litigation strategy and budgets.
