Job summary

Valley Bank is seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to provide legal support to its SMB, Private Bank, consumer lending and residential mortgage lines of business. The role requires strong commercial lending knowledge and the ability to advise across banking products and regulatory matters.

The ideal candidate will have a JD from an accredited law school, active U.S. bar membership, and at least 6 years of relevant experience, including in-house experience at a financial institution.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school with active U.S. bar membership
• Minimum 6 years practicing attorney experience in lending/financial services
• In-house banking experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide legal counsel to SMB lending and credit teams on commercial loans to small businesses
• Provide transactional support to Private Bank lending products and residential mortgage team
• Draft, review and negotiate standardized loan documentation and related agreements
• Advise on collateral structures, UCC Article 9 matters, lien priority and enforcement
• Advise on origination, servicing and collection of consumer and residential mortgage lending
• Advise on laws and standards including TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAP
• Collaborate with lending, risk, and operations teams to ensure compliant transaction execution
• Maintain and enhance template documentation for consistency across lending platforms
