Job summary

AZAK is seeking a hands-on Battery Management System (BMS) Engineer to design, build, and test our next-generation BMS entirely in-house. You will own critical blocks of the design, tailoring hardware for high-voltage, high-current, and extreme high-temperature environments, ensuring reliability in rugged field conditions.

You will collaborate with product leadership and cross-functional teams to execute schematic capture, layout, firmware, and thermal strategies for our custom battery packs,

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience designing custom Battery Management Systems from schematic capture to firmware deployment.
• Embedded C/C++ for 32-bit MCUs with CAN, SPI, I2C.
• Thermal design and high-temperature component selection.
• Experience with safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508) and defense/robotics contexts.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Denver, CO.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop in-house BMS from ground up, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and low-level firmware for real-time cell monitoring and balancing.
• Develop firmware in C/C++ for automotive-grade MCUs with high-speed communication protocols.
• Engineer robust thermal management and select AEC-Q-qualified components for harsh conditions.
• Lead HIL and environmental chamber tests with the battery team to push prototypes to failure.
• Collaborate with power electronics, mechanical, and software teams to integrate BMS into a ~60V in-wheel architecture.
