Job summary

Mitsui & Co. Energy Marketing and Services (MEMS), Inc. in Houston seeks an Associate Legal Counsel to support MEMS Legal in commodity trading and commercial operations.

The role is development-focused, under supervision, with emphasis on contract review, research, and compliance. You will draft and revise commercial agreements, assist with regulatory filings, and help maintain knowledge bases, playbooks, and contract trackers.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• 1–3 years of relevant legal experience; in lieu of experience, candidates with strong academic credentials may be considered.
• Knowledge of corporate and contract law, energy-related issues preferred.
• Prior experience with contract management systems and legal tech is preferred.
• Experience in energy, commodities, power, natural gas, LNG, renewables, and environmental products is highly desired.
• Strong drafting, research, and issue spotting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior legal personnel in providing support to MEMS commodity trading, marketing, commercial, risk, credit, operations, and compliance teams.
• Draft, review, and revise commercial commodity agreements and related documents under supervision.
• Conduct legal research and prepare concise summaries, issue lists, risk assessments, and recommendations.
• Identify legal, contractual, regulatory, compliance, and risk issues in commercial agreements.
• Support contract administration, tracking, deadline tracking, and document management.
