Job summary

Prep Academy Tutors of Northern Virginia is seeking experienced, certified educators to provide personalized, in-home tutoring for middle school students in grades 6–8 in the Fair Oaks area. Tutors work in students' homes, delivering focused one-on-one instruction and building confidence and academic progress.

Ideal candidates bring classroom teaching experience, a bachelor’s degree or higher, and Virginia teaching credentials, with the ability to adapt lessons to diverse learning needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Virginia teaching license/certificate or equivalent teaching credential.
• Demonstrated classroom teaching experience.
• Strong knowledge of at least one core academic subject.
• Experience working with students in grades K–8.
• Ability to adapt instruction for different learning styles, abilities, and academic levels.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, professionalism, reliability, and a student-centered approach.
• Excellent organization and time-management skills.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to student homes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, one-on-one instruction in the student’s home.
• Support across Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and related subjects.
• Adapt lessons to individual learning needs.
• Reinforce classroom instruction and build foundational skills.
• Assist with homework and study strategies.
• Identify academic difficulties and develop targeted improvements.
• Establish professional relationships with families.
• Monitor progress and communicate observations.
• Encourage ownership of learning and student confidence.
• Maintain a productive in-home learning environment.
• Travel to students’ homes.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher

Virginia teaching license/certificate or equivalent
