Job summary

Middlesex County STEM Charter School (MCSCS) seeks an In-Class Support Teacher to assist teachers and students in classroom settings for K–9, in person. This 10-month, full-time role starts at $42,000 per year with benefits. You will support instruction, manage routines, and help prepare materials and assessments.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree, NJ Substitute Certification, U.S. work authorization, and a current TB test; experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers and students in the classroom with assistance in the academic and developmental progress of students.
• Assist teachers in delivering educational content by working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning objectives.
• Help maintain a positive learning environment by supporting classroom routines and supervising student behavior.
• Assist with clerical duties such as setting up equipment, preparing instructional materials, and recording student progress.
• Monitor students in various settings, including cafeterias, hallways, and during field trips, ensuring their safety and adherence to school policies.
• Work closely with fellow teachers, support staff, and administrators to enhance instructional practices and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth opportunities such as ongoing training and workshops to stay current with the latest developments in education.

About MCSCS

Middlesex County STEM Charter School (MCSCS) is a public school serving grades Kindergarten through 9th grades and open to all students who reside in the City of Perth Amboy. The school is free to all students and families and is a replication of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, a recipient of the 2016 Blue-Ribbon Award and other prestigious awards.

In-Class Support Teacher

Essential Duties:

• Communicates responsibly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school leadership;
• Accounts for student attendance and punctuality;
• Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures;
• Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;

Additional Responsibilities:

• Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent;
• Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communication;
• Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction;
• Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Proven communication and instructional strategies;
• Classroom management skills;
• Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing;
• Excellent organizational skills.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
• Valid NJ Substitute Certification;
• NJ Criminal History;
• Work authorization in the U.S.;
• Tuberculosis Test;
• Experience is a plus.
