Job summary

SEG Solar, Inc. is seeking an Import Specialist to join our Houston-based supply chain team. You will oversee end-to-end import processes, coordinate shipments, and ensure compliance with international trade regulations while optimizing logistics costs.

In this role, you will work with 3PLs, freight forwarders, and brokers to maintain accurate records, analyze KPIs, and drive continuous improvements across procurement, sourcing, and warehousing functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics or Business (preferred).
  • 5+ years in supply chain with focus on import logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of Incoterms, customs procedures, and freight forwarding.
  • Experience with ERP, TMS, WMS, and MS Office.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Effective coordination with suppliers, carriers, and 3PL.

Responsibilities

  • Review and manage international shipping documentation (BL, CI, PL) and customs declarations.
  • Collaborate with 3PLs, NVOCCs, and freight forwarders to optimize costs.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, tariffs, and trade docs.
  • Analyze supply chain data to identify cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Monitor shipments, resolve delays, and manage exceptions.

Position Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Import Specialist to join our dynamic supply chain team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the end-to-end import process, ensuring seamless coordination of shipments, compliance with international trade regulations, and optimal logistics cost. Responsibilities
  • Review and manage international shipping documentation such as Bill of Lading (BL), Commercial Invoices (CI), Packing Lists (PL), and customs declarations/ clearance including Importer Security Filing (ISF), Automated Export System (AES), Entry Summary.
  • Collaborate with 3PL providers, NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) partners, and freight forwarders to streamline logistics operations and optimize costs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with customs regulations, tariffs, and trade documentation requirements; maintain accurate records for auditing purposes.
  • Analyze supply chain data to identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced operational efficiency across procurement, sourcing, and warehouse activities.
  • Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex international logistics challenges, proactively monitor shipment statuses, resolve delays, and manage shipment exceptions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics or Business (preferred)
  • 5+ years previous experience in supply chain management with a focus on import logistics; Strong knowledge of international shipping procedures, import regulations, Incoterms, and customs procedures, freight forwarding, shipping & receiving protocols, transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management system (WMS), ERP systems and MS Office applications
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform well under pressure
  • Experience managing customs brokers and third-party trade-related service providers
  • Experience defining and tracking logistics KPIs and using data for continuous improvement
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and compliance requirements.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating across multiple stakeholders including suppliers, carriers, forwarders, 3PL, warehouse, finance and management.
