Job summary

THOMAS Freight in Chicago is seeking an Import Operator to manage air and ocean import shipments end-to-end. You will coordinate with overseas agents, carriers, customers, and customs brokers while providing proactive shipment updates.

The role requires 3+ years in import operations, strong communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment, with hybrid working flexibility.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in import operations (air & ocean).
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment.
• Customs entry writing experience is advantageous.
• Based in the Chicago/ORD area.

I'm currently partnering with a growing international freight forwarder in the Chicago area that's looking to add an experienced Import Operator to its operations team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in air and ocean imports who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and wants to continue developing their career.

What you'll be doing:

• Managing air and ocean import shipments from A-Z
• Coordinating with overseas agents, carriers, customers, and customs brokers
• Monitoring shipments and providing proactive customer updates
• Handling invoicing, documentation, and shipment tracking
• Working within CargoWise to manage files and maintain accurate records
• Supporting customs entry coordination and Importer Security Filings (ISFs)

What we're looking for:
